Getting cursor keys on Harmattan 1.1 via Swype input method

Via: @IML337

The inclusion of the Swype input method in Harmattan PR1.1 gives a more traditional alternative to the touch-and-hold, iOS-style magnifying class for positioning the text caret. "IML337" wrote on Twitter: It DOES have arrow keys on the vkbd, thanks to swype! Enable Swype [under Text & Language in Settings]. Go into edit mode (hold on the swype key, and swipe to the next key to the right) and voila!

PR1.1 Harmattan update for N950 now available via over-the-air SSU

Editor: Ryan Abel

Nokia has released an update for N950 devices which brings its software more closely in-line with the PR1.1 release of Harmattan for the N9. We covered the plans for this last week, but the update finally hit Wednesday. Highlights include: Application close by swiping from top to bottom is now always on, improved memory handling to boost application startup and overall performance, multilanguage keyboard and support for Swype, support for Chinese language (separate variant), added plugin support for Google, Picasa, Flickr and YouTube, number of small UI tweaks e.g status bar notification icon updates, number of bug fixes and changes have been implemented, Galaxy on Fire application has been added, need for Speed Shift application has bee added, and Widgets Gallery and QT Quick components gallery application have been removed. Many users have had issues with the update, beginning with Nokia's usual network-related issues for new updates and continuing with seeming package-management problems (which are difficult to resolve given the lack of detail in Harmattan's error messages). A flasher image isn't yet available.

I am happy to announce all needed is now available to work with Community Edition Fall release on a N950. See:http://wiki.meego.com/ARM/N950. Thanks for everybody involved and for the patience, we had somewhat a long last mile with this one. It looks like this is the last release that will be named "MeeGo Community Edition." Going forward we will see Nemo releases.

Discuss N9 Contacts & IM issues with the developers

Via: @Jaffa2

Editor: Andrew Olmsted

In a similar vane to the MfE story above, "abustany" has started a thread at talk.maemo.org to discuss bugs and possible enhancements to the contacts and messaging applications for Harmattan. Feature requests are accepted too, but we now have limited resources on Nokia side to implement them... The good thing? All our middleware is open source! Which means you can too contribute the features you'd like to see. There has been good response in the thread and the creator is quite active in responding to questions and comments.
